Housewives in Pakistan usually remain busy in household work whole day and find less time to take rest or for entertainment. Most of these housewives face some kind of domestic violence in their life too. The outbreak of coronavirus and lockdown worsened the situation for most of them in different ways.
Since the lockdown declared to combat to Covid-19 things got changed for housewives. Their household work has increased in manifold because children are not going to school and husband is not going for work. Fulfilling their demands and helping children in their studies with completing other household chores is quite hectic.
The husband is at home means unlimited demands, our typical men do not help their wives in household chores and even they tend to increase their work by demanding meals, tea and even a glass of water.
Women are more stressed than a man because of financial crises because they are finding it difficult to manage home. Many women are spending their savings and selling their jewellery to support their families in these difficult times.
Women are so strong they do all the work without any help; they are first to wake up and last to sleep. They even do not care for their health, they just care for their family and feel worried about them. Many women are living in the fear of the unknows, fear of the coronavirus and they just want to keep their family safe from coronavirus. Women are doing a lot but they demand nothing but acknowledgement, care and respect.
Unfortunately, most of them do not get what they want even they face physical and psychological abuse. Patriarchal mindset is the biggest dilemma of our society. Most of the men never acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of women, they consider that what women are doing are their duty and obligation.
There is an exception in which husbands assist their wives in household chores and cooking and it has nothing to do with education and literacy. We need to raise that kind of men who support their wives and share equal burden at home and do not abuse their wives physically or mentally.
