HIV-AIDS

Lack of awareness on precautionary measures and limited access to health facilities are a major contributor to increasingly HIV mortalities. There has been a 369% increase in the number of AIDS-related deaths since 2010, from 1400 deaths to 6400 deaths. The number of new HIV infections has also risen, from 14 000 to 22 000 in the same period. The efficacy of governments’ policies to control the disease has flawed, donor-driven and intermittent that resulted in a huge amount of HIV cases over the years. Far-sightedness helped WEG to understand the problem, so WEG partnered with the major national and international organizations including National AIDS Program, WHO, Directorate General of Health Services Punjab and organized conferences, seminars and training on the prevention of HIV. Later WEG developed a booklet on HIV/AIDS for the Lady Health Workers to educate women and men in the remote areas of Pakistan.
