Advocacy for Legal Reforms

To ensure gender justice and end gender-based violence from our society, it is paramount to have some laws in place so that the offenders can be punished and the potential perpetrators can be deterred. With time, we have lobbied governments, legal advisors, judiciary and public institutions to make and implement certain laws to protect women from violence. Some of our key initiatives in this area include:

Increased Women Quota in NA

Due to our efforts, combined with other stakeholders, back in 2000, a bill was passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan which increased women quota in the parliament up to 33%.

Anti-Honor Killing & Anti-Rape Laws

WEG in coordination with National Commission on Status of Women worked on amendments in anti-honour killing and anti-rape laws. Whereas at provincial level we successfully engaged legislators for the promulgation of domestic violence bill in the province of Punjab and working on the same in KPK.

Workplace Harassment Bill

Recently, with our efforts in coordination with Provincial Commission on Status of Women, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced “Protection of Women against Workplace Harassment Bill”. Indeed, a great millstone has been achieved for women’s right.
