Sexual Violence

Sexual violence is an extreme violation of bodily autonomy and human dignity, frequently used as a tool of systemic oppression and domestic control. In the regional context, these crimes are often underreported due to the pervasive “culture of silence,” social stigma, and the fear of “honor-based” repercussions for the survivor rather than the perpetrator. WEG addresses this crisis by shifting the burden of shame from the survivor to the offender and advocating for a legal system that ensures swift, gender-sensitive justice.

Our strategic intervention against sexual violence focuses on:

  • Legislative Reform: We have actively collaborated with the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) to strengthen Anti-Rape Laws, advocating for the inadmissibility of character evidence and the implementation of fast-track legal proceedings to prevent secondary victimization during trials.
  • Sensitizing State Machinery: A critical component of our work involves training law enforcement and medical professionals in Medico-Legal protocols. This ensures that evidence is collected with scientific precision and that survivors are treated with the highest level of empathy and confidentiality.
  • Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE): By integrating protective education into our youth programs, we empower adolescents to recognize boundaries, understand consent, and seek help, effectively building a foundational defense against exploitation.
  • Engaging Men and Boys: Through our Male Allies initiative, we challenge the toxic social narratives that excuse sexual aggression. We mobilize men to hold their peers accountable and to champion a culture where “no means no” is a non-negotiable social and legal standard.

WEG is committed to dismantling the structures that allow sexual violence to persist. By combining rigorous policy advocacy with community-based sensitization, we strive to create a Pakistan where every individual is safe from the threat of violence and empowered by the protection of the law.
