What We Do

Through the transfer of knowledge and awareness, WEG aspires to enhance the process of socio-economic development and empowerment of disadvantaged and marginalized parts of society at the grassroots level.

We firmly believe that the permanent solution to improve the situation of relegated classes of the society can only be achieved by developing their ability to mobilize, manage and control local and external resources by themselves.

A PATHWAY TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

HOW WE EMPOWER

We have empowered 12,000,000 women through community-based education on breast health, provided free clinical breast examinations to 29,000 symptomatic patients through expert doctors, free mammograms to thousands of the poorest-of-the-poor women and educated at least 1,326,658 young girls about self-examination methods.

With our advocacy and campaigning efforts, WEG managed to engage all relevant stakeholders including religious scholars, government officials, curriculum and textbook wings, educationists, teachers and parents in the development of Pakistan’s first Life Skills Based Education (LSBE) curriculum in 2014.

Every year we reach out to thousands of youth through hundreds of schools, colleges and universities across Pakistan. Despite being pioneers in men engagement for eradicating violence against women, we successfully got one million signatures from men and boys pledging “Never to Commit, Never to Excuse and Never to Remain Silent about Violence against Women”.

WEG is running a “Legal Literacy Program” with the main objective of creating awareness amongst women about their legal rights.

Women’s Empowerment Group (WEG) is a Center of Excellence for Gender & Development. Other than executing our ongoing initiatives we also give consultancy services to local and international organizations. We help organizations across the private, public, and social sectors create change that matters.

Breast Cancer Awareness with Diagnosis & Treatment

Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia. Breast cancer affects one out of every nine women. WEG realised that the disease’s widespread prevalence is harmful and likely to worsen in the future.  We discovered that the issue was becoming more serious as a result of a lack of awareness, societal stigma, and myths and misconceptions about breast cancer. As a result, in 2004, we initiated a nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign to raise awareness about prevention, early detection, and treatment. Our work ranges from strategic interventions to public awareness as well as patient assistance and service delivery.

Adolescence Sexual and Reproductive Health

Adolescents, who make up more than 60% of Pakistan’s population, suffer from a variety of physical, behavioural, social, and emotional problems as a result of a lack of awareness about concerns related to growing up. In Pakistan, discussing these concerns was frowned upon. WEG began a campaign to raise awareness, consciousness, and acceptance of young people’s particular informational and emotional requirements in order to shatter the silence surrounding adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH).

Men Engagement to End Violence against Women

Women in Pakistan have been subjected to maltreatment and injustice for decades under the cover of horrific traditions. These various expressions of unfairness are profoundly established in a social system that prioritizes the demands of men at the expense of the other half of society. WEG founded a men’s movement to end violence against women on the premise that “those who perpetrate injustice can deliver justice since they have the power to do both.” We believe that males, even if they are not a part of the problem, can contribute to the solution by convincing others to question and end all forms of violence against women.
